A dramatic video has captured the moment a shark lunges towards tourists on a beach in the Canary Islands, Spain. The footage shows the predator, accompanied by what appears to be a second shark, cutting through the waves towards screaming swimmers.

The incident, shared on TikTok, took place at a beach in Las Palmas, a popular holiday destination in the Canary Islands of Spain. In the footage, the sharp fin of the shark is seen slicing through the water as it speeds towards the shore, causing swimmers to scream in fear. The shark quickly moves towards shallower waters, while in the background, alarmed cries can be heard from people on the sand.

A young woman appears to run away from the approaching shark as it comes incredibly close to the shore, with its fin and tail clearly visible just a few meters from the sand.

The shark eventually turns and swims back into the sea, much to the relief of onlookers. The incident highlights the increasing number of shark sightings on popular Spanish beaches this year.

Several beaches on the mainland of Spain and nearby islands have been closed over the summer for precautionary reasons due to these sightings.

In May, tourists and locals concerned for their safety were banned from entering the sea because of a shark sighting off the beach of Arenal d’en Castell in Menorca.

The coastguard raised a red flag and called emergency services after the fin of a two-meter long blue shark was spotted above the waterline, dangerously close to the shore.

The shocking video showed the shark patrolling the water near a boat, just off the beach around 3:30 PM.
