by time news
Shashi Tharoor, MP, will not attend the seminar on the CPM party congress. Tharoor withdrew from the seminar after Sonia Gandhi suggested that Shashi Tharoor and KV Thomas should not attend the CPM – led seminar in the interest of the KPCC leadership.

Tharoor said in a press release that the party had invited him to attend the seminar during the CPM state convention but he had withdrawn from the event in consultation with the AICC leadership. In a statement, Tharoor said that although the issue could have been resolved without further controversy, some centers had turned the issue into a controversy and the CPM was abstaining from the Congress seminar.

Earlier, KPCC president K Sudhakaran had warned that action would be taken against Shashi Tharoor if he attended the CPM party congress seminar. However, Tharoor and KV Thomas said that despite the KPCC ban, the final decision should be taken by the national leadership. The two then approached the Congress High Command seeking permission to attend the seminar.

K. Sudhakaran was of the view that he could attend the seminar if Sonia Gandhi allowed it. Sudhakaran said it was not right for Congress leaders to come to the CPM stage as the Congress intensifies its protests against the Left government, including in Kerala.

Welcome to attend; Kodiyeri called the ban a political bankruptcy of the Congress

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, CPM state secretary, said that the KPCC’s decision to bar the leaders from attending the seminar held in connection with the CPM party congress was a political bankruptcy of the Congress. He said he would welcome leaders if they were willing to attend the seminar. Kodiyeri said that the leaders were barred from the seminar due to the pro – BJP stance of the Congress.

Congress leaders Shashi tharoor and KV Thomas were invited to attend seminars at the CPM party congress. Shashi Tharoor was invited to a seminar on the challenges of secularism. KV Thomas was also invited to a seminar on ‘Relations between Central and State Governments’.

However, the KPCC had yesterday directed Congress leaders not to attend CPM seminars. President K Sudhakaran clarified that action would be taken if any Congress leader attended the CPM seminar in violation of the KPCC ban.

The Left government is making the people cry, including the Kerala issue. A large population is concerned. It was in this context that the leaders were barred from attending the CPM’s seminar. Sudhakaran explained that the decision was taken after understanding the sentiments of the people. Sudhakaran added that if Sonia Gandhi allows it, the leaders should leave.
