Cabano pleaded guilty to forging military documents and even set up a fictitious fund to raise money in her fake fight against cancer. She claims she got the cancer as a result of inhaling explosive particles.

Cabano also received expenses for renovations to her home and hundreds of hours of paid leave. In addition, she even attended military events of combatants in Afghanistan and Iraq with fake uniforms and medals.

Cabano was arrested after two veterans suspected her after examining her medical file and found it non-existent. She faces up to a maximum of 24 years in prison, but as part of the plea deal the plaintiffs will recommend a lighter sentence
