Dhaka: Sheikh Hasina has given a public statement for the first time after fleeing Bangladesh. Hasina’s statement came after a murder case was registered against her in Bangladesh. In this statement, she has demanded a proper investigation into the violence in Bangladesh. She has said that the culprits of this violence should be identified and given appropriate punishment. Her statement has been shared by her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy on the social media platform X. In this statement, she has also expressed her grief over the insult of the statues of Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujiburahman and the arson at his residence.

Sheikh Hasina counted the sacrifices of the family

Sheikh Hasina started her statement with the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She wrote, “Brothers and sisters, on 15 August 1975, Bangladesh President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was brutally assassinated. I have deep respect for him. At that time, my mother Begum Fazilatunnaisa, my three brothers freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal, freedom fighter Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal, Kamal and Jamal’s newly married wife Sultana Kamal, my younger brother who was only 10 years old at that time, were brutally murdered.” In her letter, she also wrote the names of other people killed during this time and paid tribute to them. She wrote, “May the soul of all those who were martyred on 15 August rest in peace and I pay tribute to the martyrs.”

Justice sought for Bangladesh violence

Hasina further wrote, “Since last July, many people have lost their lives in vandalism, arson and violence in the name of the movement. Students, teachers, police, even women police, journalists, social workers, working people, Awami League leaders and workers of affiliated organizations, pedestrians and workers of various institutions who have died after becoming victims of terrorist attacks. I mourn the death of all these people and pray for the peace of their souls.” She further wrote, “My condolences to those like me who are living with the pain of losing a loved one. I demand that a proper investigation be conducted into those involved in these murders and barbarism and the culprits be identified and given appropriate punishment.”

Expressed deep sorrow over the insult of Bangabandhu

This ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh further wrote, We two sisters dedicated the house that holds the memory of the brutal killings that took place in Dhanmondi Bangabandhu Bhavan on August 15, 1975, to the people of Bengal. A memorial museum was built. From the common people of the country to the dignitaries of the country and abroad have visited this house. This museum is a memorial of independence. It is very sad that the memory that was the basis of our survival has been burnt to ashes. We are serving you, the purpose of which is to bring a smile on the faces of the suffering people of Bangladesh, to keep the memory of the loss of your loved ones in your hearts. You have also started getting its auspicious fruits. Bangladesh has attained the status of a developing country in the world.

Appeal to observe national mourning day on 15 August

Hasina also said, “The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose leadership we got self-respect as an independent nation, our identity and an independent country, has been insulted. They have insulted the blood of millions of martyrs. I want justice from my countrymen. I appeal to you to observe the National Mourning Day on August 15 with due dignity and seriousness. Offer flowers and prayers at Bangabandhu Bhaban and pray for the salvation of all souls. May Allah Almighty bless the people of Bangladesh. Joy Bangla Joy Bangabandhu.”
