World leaders congratulated Sheikh Hasina at the Munich Security Conference (MSC) on her re-election as Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s presence at this time attracted wide attention among world leaders.

On the first day of MSc-2024, Foreign Minister Dr. Hashan Mahmud said, ‘Presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has created great interest among world leaders. They (world leaders) have congratulated her and she (Sheikh Hasina) has become the center of attention for MSc-2024.’

Dr. Hasan said the Prime Minister had a busy day attending seven bilateral meetings and one panel discussion at the MSC. In a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdul Rahman Al-Thani, Sheikh Hasina discussed the Palestine and Rohingya issues as well as various bilateral issues.

The Prime Minister also held a meeting with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General (DG) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Congratulating Saima Wazed for being elected as WHO DG Regional Director in the meeting, Saima Wazed is working with great enthusiasm.

Sheikh Hasina participated in a panel discussion titled ‘From Pocket to Planet: Scaling up Climate Finance’ at the MSc.

He also met with Sir Nick Clegg, President of Meta Global Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and Axel van Trotsenberg, Senior Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships at the World Bank.

The World Bank recently pledged $700 million for Rohingya and poor people, in addition to $16 billion in 56 ongoing projects and $509 million in budget support.

The foreign minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on the World Bank to provide assistance in the budget as soon as possible. The Prime Minister also thanked the World Bank for financing various projects in Bangladesh.

Women Political Leaders President Silvana Koch-Mehrin paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Minister of Foreign Affairs in the meeting. Hasan Mahmud and the Ministry’s Senior Secretary Masood Bin Momen were present.
