According to him, even then it was noticeable how “they are starting their turn”.
“They were very unhappy, first of all, with our attitude towards Russia,” he emphasized.
In this regard, Viktor Sheiman mentioned his visit to the USA in April 1995, when he was received by the Minister of Defense, the Director of the FBI and the Deputy Secretary of State.
“At all these meetings, they were clearly trolling, and at that time they were not interested in freedom of speech or democracy, they were interested in the first – our relations with Russia, how they will develop, our attitude in relation to nuclear weapons – whether we withdraw them or not, when we export, why to Russia. Then, again, our policy in the future, what it will be: a collective agreement with Russia and other states. It clearly stood out, there was interest,” he says.
According to him, the US administration also did not like the intention of Belarus to leave Russian bases on its territory.
“It was 1995. Since that time, several things began to put pressure on the Republic of Belarus, and it led to appropriate sanctions, then, including unpleasant things that they tried to implement in the economy to undermine our economic interests instead some,” said Viktor Sheiman.

Later it emerged that Sheyman remained working as Lukashenka’s assistant “for special tasks”.
In January 2013, Lukashenka appointed him head of the Affairs Management. In this position, he took care of Belarusian projects in Africa.
Viktor Sheiman appears in several journalistic investigations of the creation of a business empire based on smuggling and gray schemes, which worked for the benefit of the Lukashenka family.
