Sheinbaum recommends UNAM students to “read the proposal carefully”

After the marches and protests starring students of the Law school and others from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) against the reform al Judiciarythe president-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumhe recommended to them read the proposal carefully.

“What I recommend is that they read carefully the proposal made by the deputies, … In the appointment of judges it is not a matter of judicial career, there are many family members, nepotism; on the other hand, if a student from the Faculty of Law who meets the requirements and passes through the commissions that will define who will be able to participate in an election, then they can participate,” he declared in an interview.

He said that what is sought with this reform is a more democratic country, that is what the people of Mexico want, it is a will and that is what is important and also for our adversaries the people of Mexico decided that they want a reform to the judicial power and decided that they want those who are judges, magistrates, ministers to be elected.

He denied that there would be an escalation of protests against the reform of the Judicial Branch, arguing that “the people of Mexico have recognized this. What our legislators are deciding is what the people want.”

She said that she has always fought for democracy, so she ruled out the possibility that with the approval of the judicial reform and the supermajority in Congress there will be a dictatorship in the country.

“We fight against electoral fraud, we fight because Mexico is a democratic country. Since I was young, I fought for democracy at university, for democracy in unions, for electoral democracy against electoral fraud,” he said.
