In an interview with the American fashion magazine Essence published at the beginning of February, the legendary athlete who has already run the 100 meters in 10.60, highlights neither his age nor any possible weariness but the desire not to do the race. too much, to decide alone and rebalance her personal life.

And firstly, “I want to finish the way I want to,” explains the woman who has eight Olympic medals, including three gold, and ten world champion titles. She has notably already been crowned queen of the 100m at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, before being beaten in Rio in 2016 (3rd) and in Tokyo in 2021 (2nd). And two, “my son needs me,” she says of Zyon, her son, now seven years old. She became world champion in the 100m again less than two years after the birth of her son.

“My husband and I were already together before my victory in 2008. He made a lot of sacrifices for me. We are a team. It is thanks to his support that I have been able to achieve this success over all these years. I believe that from now on, I owe it to them to do something else,” explains the sportswoman.

At the Paris Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11), the Jamaican supersonic intends to “push the boundaries” and “show people that we stop when we decide.”

Last summer, she took 3rd place in the 100m at the World Championships in Budapest, ahead of her compatriot Shericka Jackson, in silver, and by the American Sha’Carri Richardson.
