Sheryl Crow and Chaka Khan Rock the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
New York City was buzzing with excitement on Friday night as the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place. The event was filled with captivating performances and heartfelt tributes to some of the most influential musicians in the industry.
The Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan, dazzled the crowd with a medley of her greatest hits including “Ain’t Nobody.” Accompanied by H.E.R., Sia, and Common, Khan delivered a funky performance that had everyone on their feet. Her rendition of “I’m Every Woman” was particularly powerful and earned a standing ovation.
Sheryl Crow also wowed the audience with her electric performance. Joined by rising star Olivia Rodrigo, the duo delivered a mesmerizing rendition of Crow’s hit song “If It Makes You Happy.” Later in the night, Crow teamed up with legendary singer Stevie Nicks for a captivating performance of “Strong Enough,” and Peter Frampton joined in to sing “Everyday Is a Winding Road.”
The night was also a memorable one for country music legend Willie Nelson. Dave Matthews started the tribute by playing an acoustic version of “Funny How Time Slips Away,” followed by Nelson teaming up with Chris Stapleton for a soulful rendition of “Whiskey River.” Crow later joined Nelson on stage for a heartfelt performance of “Crazy,” and the trio, along with Matthews, closed the tribute with a rollicking performance of “On the Road Again.”
The ceremony also paid tribute to the late George Michael, with his former partner in Wham!, Andrew Ridgeley, honoring him. Miguel, Carrie Underwood, and Adam Levine each performed one of Michael’s iconic hits, including “Careless Whisper” and “Faith.”
Other notable highlights from the night included the induction of “Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius and the honoring of art-rock pioneer Kate Bush by Big Boi. LL Cool J presented DJ Kool Herc, known as the “Father of Hip-Hop,” and Queen Latifah presented Missy Elliott, the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
This year’s ceremony also marked a significant moment for women in the industry, with a strong representation of female musicians being inducted. It is a step forward for inclusivity and diversity within the music industry.
