New Delhi: Shikhar Dhawan, who opened for the Indian cricket team for many years, announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on 24 August last week. Shikhar Dhawan was dropped from all three formats of Team India. In his place, young opener Shubman Gill was given a chance and he accepted this opportunity with both hands. Shubman replaced Gabbar in the team. In such a situation, when Shikhar was dropped, he was asked during an interview that if he himself were a selector, then whom would he choose between Shikhar and Shubman. So at that time he took the name of Shubman Gill. That he would give a chance to Shubman Gill over himself. However, after Shikhar Dhawan’s retirement, a video of him is going viral, in which he is sitting in a podcast and admitting that when Shubman Gill was playing, he was jealous of Gill.
Gabbar was jealous of Shubhman Gill
In the video going viral on social media, Shikhar Dhawan is saying, ‘When Shubhman was playing, I used to feel jealous. It’s not that I didn’t feel jealous at all, I did. When Sudhir bhai asked me this question. I mean, he asked a very good question. I mean, he forced me to think deeply. I had not thought that such a question would come up.’
He further said, when they asked, Shubman was playing 2 formats at that time. T20 as well as Test. I was playing one format. I used to come and go. The next guy is doing well in both formats. His performance was good. He was scoring 100. I was not scoring 100. I was scoring 50. So that’s when I answered that Shubman should get a chance.
