The same line as former Chairman Jo Jung-yeon… “Wage is based on performance”
Shin Moon-seon, a visiting professor at Myongji University who is running to become the 55th President of the Korea Football Association, promised to be a ‘working president.’
Professor Shin announced his election pledge for the 55th Football Association President at 2pm on the 27th at the Football Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
During the Q&A, Professor Shin said that unlike current Chairman Chung Mong-gyu, who insisted on being unpaid and part-time, he would visit the soccer club every day to handle his duties and receive wages.
This is the same line as former President Cho Jung-yeon, who served as the 51st President of the Football Association from 2009 to 2013.
Professor Shin said, “It’s no fun if you’re a working president and don’t worry about the price of your labor. “Not only the four major sports commissioners in the United States, but also the president of the Japanese professional soccer J-League and the president of the Japan Football Association (JFA) receive significant salaries,” he said.
He continued, “I think that in the first year of office, wages will be determined based on common sense. Wage is performance. In the past, when I worked at a company, I was the youngest manager and also the sales manager for the shortest period of time. “Companies are evaluated based on their performance,” he added.
He said, “The harsh evaluation of Chairman Chung is because there is a report card. This can be criticized because there is a clear result of an annual deficit of 30 billion won (excluding government subsidies). It is right to evaluate and verify business profits and receive compensation appropriate for the work. “The employees may not like it, but they will come to work at the soccer club every day.”
On this day, Professor Shin revealed the background of his candidacy, saying, “Korean soccer is in a crisis,” and “I am taking on the challenge with the belief that the era of conglomerate presidents in Korean soccer should end.”
He said, “If we choose Chairman Chung Mong-gyu, Korean soccer will return to the dark ages. “If Chairman Chung is defeated, new reforms and changes can begin,” he appealed.
The pledges include ▲Improvement of the image of the Football Association ▲Immediate action on 27 disposition recommendations following government audit ▲Strengthening marketing ▲Completion of Cheonan Football Center ▲NFC naming sales ▲Benchmarking of Japan, Germany, and France Football Associations, including classification of sponsor levels ▲Reform of the Korea Professional Football League ▲Establishment of the Referee Federation and independence of the Elementary, Middle and High School Federation ▲Improvement of treatment of former leaders ▲Organizational reorganization from a full-time vice president system to an executive director system ▲New businesses to increase business profits were presented.
In addition, the transition from the existing ‘Korea Football Association (KFA)’ to the ‘Korea Football Federation (tentative name: KFF, Korea Football Federation)’ was emphasized.
The plan is to open a new era with a total of six federations by adding four federations, including the Professional Soccer Federation, Korea University Soccer Federation, Korea Women’s Soccer Federation, and Korea Futsal Federation, as well as the Elementary, Middle and High School Federation, and the Referee Federation.
This election for the President of the Football Association will be a three-way race between Chairman Chung, Professor Shin, and former Chairman of Daejeon Hana Citizen of the K-League 1 professional soccer team, Huh Jung-moo.
The election will be held on January 8th next year, and the new president’s term will begin on January 22nd.
