Shin Sang-woo, the new coach of the Korean women’s national soccer team, expressed his determination, saying, “I will do my best for the development of Korean women’s soccer and the national team.”

On the 17th, Coach Shin held a press conference to take office as head coach of the women’s soccer team at the Soccer Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

On the 10th, the Korea Football Association announced, “Coach Shin has been appointed as coach of the women’s national soccer team, which was vacant after the termination of coach Colin Bell’s contract.”

The contract period runs until the 2028 Los Angeles (LA) Olympics, and an interim evaluation is scheduled to be conducted at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Coach Shin, who made his first official appearance, said, “Women’s soccer is in a difficult situation, but in a way, I think we can sketch with a blank slate.”

When asked about the direction he is pursuing, he said, “The first thing is for the players and coaches to communicate and trust each other. Only then can we become one team. The second thing is motivation. It is important to motivate people by praising them for what they do well rather than whipping them. The third is strategy and tactics. “It is important to wear a formation that suits the female player well,” he answered.

He continued, “It is important to plan training. The national team does not have a long convocation period. “We will separate out how to attack, defend, transition, and set-piece and train accordingly,” he added.

Coach Shin played for teams such as Daejeon Citizen (now Daejeon Hana Citizen) and Seongnam Ilhwa (now Seongnam FC) during his time as a player, and began his career as a coach after retirement.

He gained experience as coach of Boeun Sangmu (currently Mungyeong Sangmu), coach of Icheon Bridge, and coach of Changnyeong WFC, and from 2022, he will lead the women’s national soccer team while serving as executive coach of Gimcheon in the K-League 1 professional soccer team.

Shin Sang-woo will leave for Japan at 12 p.m. on the 21st and make his first appearance in the A-match evaluation match against Japan to be held at the National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan on the 26th.
