Shinan-gun begins to eliminate disposable products to achieve carbon neutrality

by times news cr

Shinan-gun is starting to eliminate disposable products to achieve carbon neutrality. On the 26th, Shinan-gun installed 33 tumbler washing machines in all departments to achieve carbon neutrality, taking a leading step toward protecting the environment by eliminating the use of disposable cups that are being used indiscriminately.

In a situation where waste generation and environmental pollution are worsening due to the recent increase in the use of disposable products, banning the use of disposable cups has been selected as a priority and is intended to encourage the use of tumblers, which have not been activated due to inconvenience in cleaning.

The tumbler washing machine can be used by not only employees but also visitors. The reason why economical tumbler washing machines were installed in 33 locations is because if expensive products are installed only in specific locations, the meaning of carbon neutrality can be lost due to inconvenience in use.

Shinan-gun has set a goal of zero disposable cups in the office. We plan to expand installation to towns and villages by monitoring the use of installed tumbler washing machines. This is a glimpse into Shinan-gun’s sustainable efforts to practice carbon neutrality.

Meanwhile, Shinan-gun (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 26th that it achieved the result of raising public deposit interest income of 8.9 billion won this year through active financial management despite difficult local financial conditions.

This is all the more meaningful because it was achieved despite difficulties such as the domestic economic downturn and the reduction of allocated taxes due to tax revenue losses due to the continuation of high interest rates, high exchange rates, and high inflation.

In particular, fiscal soundness was secured by increasing additional tax revenue of approximately 4.1 billion won compared to the 4.8 billion won in public deposit interest income in 2023.

According to the military, it was analyzed as the result of preemptive fund management and various efforts, such as predicting a decrease in tax revenue due to the economic recession and distributing deposits through real-time account monitoring and applying short-, medium-, and long-term circulation methods.

Next year, Shinan County plans to operate optimal short-term, mid-term, and long-term deposit products suited to the military’s financial conditions, such as comparing term and interest rates of term deposits and opening a frequent deposit/withdrawal account (MMDA) that is effective in securing short-term interest income.

In addition, the policy is to establish a collaboration system between departments related to revenue and expenditure and to manage funds flexibly, such as minimizing idle funds in ordinary deposits by closely analyzing weekly and monthly demand for funds.

Park Woo-ryang, mayor of Shinan County, said, “Considering the rapidly changing financial environment and poor military finances, we will do our best to expand financial resources by finding more efficient ways to manage funds.”
