Shinan-gun is strengthening its competitiveness in the sea salt industry by modernizing salt farms. Shinan-gun is a region that produces 80% of the nation’s sea salt, and announced that it will invest a total of 21.5 billion won in modernizing production facilities and sanitary management to strengthen the competitiveness of the sea salt industry and increase consumer trust.

This project aims to automate production facilities and create a hygienic production environment, and includes a salt farm flooring improvement project (KRW 3.7 billion) and support for automatic salt pickers and mobile cart automation equipment (KRW 1 billion). In addition, we plan to establish a stable production base through long-term storage facilities for sea salt (KRW 200 million) and packaging material support (KRW 400 million).

To improve the distribution structure, 9.5 billion won will be invested in creating a sea salt distribution complex, 100 million won in geographical indication system registration, and 200 million won in publicity and marketing. In particular, we plan to maximize the distribution efficiency of sea salt by linking storage, processing, and distribution functions centered on the sea salt comprehensive distribution center built at a cost of 17 billion won.

In addition, to expand sales channels for sea salt and develop high value-added products, the introduction of an automatic packaging machine (KRW 500 million) and export marketing projects will also be promoted.

Focusing on improving the working environment, a 1:1 dedicated system will be implemented to protect the human rights of salt farm workers, and 10 billion won will be spent to build safe lodgings for salt farm workers. In addition, we plan to accelerate the improvement of the working environment through on-site customized human rights education.

Shinan County Mayor Park Woo-ryang said, “To secure the competitiveness of the sea salt industry, modernizing production facilities and creating a hygienic environment are essential,” and added, “We will promote the value of Shinan sea salt both domestically and internationally by improving the stable production base and distribution structure.”

Meanwhile, Shinan-gun held a preliminary briefing session for participating students and parents ahead of the 2025 middle school students’ U.S. language training program at the Shinan-gun Office video conference room on the 9th.

60 people, including language training subjects, attended the preliminary briefing session, and island students who were unable to attend the briefing session due to bad weather participated in the real-time briefing session through video conferencing devices installed at town/myeon offices.

The briefing session included a detailed explanation of the training outline, operation plan, preparations, homestay life, schedule at the local school, etc., as well as a Q&A session for questions.

This language training will be held in Seattle, Washington, USA for approximately 4 weeks from January 23rd to February 20th. Participating students were selected fairly through written and oral exams administered by the Korea TOEIC Committee and YBM last September.

During the training period, students not only participate in intensive English learning courses, but also participate in exchange activities with local schools and cultural experience programs. Students will experience American culture firsthand, and these experiences are expected to broaden students’ scope of thinking and develop their capabilities.

It was recently reported in the media that the only student from 70 public high schools in Jeollanam-do who was accepted to Seoul National University College of Medicine also participated in the 2019 language training program, drawing even more attention from parents.

One parent among the training participants expressed high expectations, saying, “I hope my child will grow and gain confidence through this program.”

Park Woo-ryang, mayor of Shinan County, said, “We hope that students will gain confidence and grow into future international leaders through this language training.” He added, “We plan to continue to provide various educational opportunities so that local talent can expand into the world.” .

The language training program for middle school students in Shinan-gun is expected to greatly contribute to broadening their international perspective and nurturing international leaders in the region.
