Shira Lev Ami has been appointed head of the new national digital system

After being transferred to the former Minister Amsalem’s digital office and returning to the Ministry of Economy with honors, the ICT Authority and the Digital Israel Array are merged into one administrative body under the name “National Digital Array”. Today (Monday), the Minister of Economy, Orna Barbibai, announced the appointment of Shira Lev Ami, former director of the Ministry of Health, to the position of head of the unit. Globes first revealed her candidacy a week ago.

As mentioned, the new system combines two bodies that operated separately from each other under the Ministry of Economy in the field of government computing. The ICT Authority, led until recently by Shahar Bracha, has become a powerful body in the field of government computing, dictating the agenda on government cloud tenders, including the Nimbus project, dealing with the procurement policy of computer equipment for all government bodies, and promoting uniform standards and licenses. Digital Israel, on the other hand, is an array that is mainly related to improving the digital service to the citizen and promoting technological literacy.

In April 2019, with the formation of the Netanyahu-Ganz government, the two bodies were placed under the Ministry of Communications, and it was renamed the “Ministry of Digital Communications”, but on June 7, 2020 they were separated into the National Digital Ministry established for former Minister David Amsalem. With the formation of the current government in June 2021, the Ministry of Digital closed, and thus the ICT Authority and Digital Israel returned to the Ministry of Economy.

Lev Ami, a graduate of Unit 8200 in a technological position, served for about seven years as Chief of Staff (Chief Information Systems Manager) of the Ministry of Health. After that, she moved to the private market, set up a medical start-up company and served in information systems management positions at the Jewish JDC.
