London: Rishi Sunak-led Conservative Party has lost in the UK general election. After the elections, the Labor Party has come to power. In this election, 29 members of Indian origin won. The video of one of these MPs, Shivani Raja, has gone viral in India. Indian-origin Conservative Party member Shivani has become an MP from Leicester East. She has defeated former Deputy Mayor of London Rajesh Aggarwal. After the victory, while taking oath as a Member of Parliament, she was holding the Bhagavad Gita in her hand, the video of which is now being seen a lot. In a post on X, she posted a video of the swearing-in ceremony. In this, along with the video, she wrote, ‘It is an honor to take oath in Parliament today to represent Leicester East. I felt really proud to swear my allegiance to His Majesty King Charles on the Gita.’ Shivani’s victory is being seen as a major success. Because Leicester East is considered a stronghold of the Labor Party. For 37 years, the Labor Party had an MP. This time there was a wave in favour of the Labour Party, but even in this wave Raja did wonders by winning.
Who is Shivani Raja?
Shivani Raja was born in 1994. Her parents moved to Leicester from Kenya and India in the late 1970s. Her father is a Gujarati who was in Kenya. While her mother moved straight to Leicester from Rajkot. Shivani graduated from De Montfort University with a degree in pharmaceutical and cosmetic science and has worked for several major cosmetic brands in England. According to reports, she is also involved in her family business which is related to construction and hospitality.
Labour Party wins in Britain
The Conservative Party has lost power in Britain after 14 years. There is a flood of new MPs. Along with Raja, Indian-origin MP Bob Blackman, Bihar-born Labour MP Kanishka Narayan and opposition leader Rishi Sunak also took oath on the Bhagavad Gita. The Labour Party has captured 412 out of 650 seats in the British Parliament. The Conservative Party has got only 121 seats. This is considered to be the biggest defeat of the Conservative Party so far.
