Shock calls: Sparkasse employee prevents fraud | Free press

Chemnitz.

A savings bank employee prevented an attempted fraud in Chemnitz on Thursday afternoon. As the police announced, a senior citizen had appeared in a savings bank on Bahnhofstrasse. She had received a call from an alleged professor from the hospital on Flemmingstrasse. He had told her that her son was seriously ill with Corona and urgently needed a rare, expensive drug from Switzerland. The woman then wanted to withdraw a five-figure sum of cash. An employee of the Sparkasse was puzzled, asked the senior citizen to give her the son’s phone number and called him. The attempted fraud was exposed.

The police warn against such calls. In the past few days, fraudsters had repeatedly tried to steal money with this scam. (sane)
