The Salvadoran journalists’ union mourned the death of journalist David Cruz Guevara, one of the victims who died in the plane crash of the UH-1H helicopter that was also transporting the director of the PNC, Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, and the general manager of COSAVI, Manuel Coto; accused of embezzlement.
Cruz worked as an institutional journalist at the Ministry of Justice and Security and also as a reporter for Noticiero El Salvador on Channel 10. In fact, the last broadcast that the journalist made “live” was precisely the handover of Coto by the Honduran authorities.
The journalist, along with several security authorities, had traveled to the El Amatillo border, La Unión, where the Honduran police would hand over the COSAVI manager.
“What you are seeing on the screen on this rainy night of September 8th… there is a heavy rain in this place and that is slowing us down a bit; however, we are going to get closer so that you can see the transfer of this accused to the helicopter that will take him to San Salvador to be presented to the media and in the next few hours he will face proceedings against him… We are having problems with communication, I leave you with the images,” were the last words that Cruz transmitted “live” for the newscast.
Minutes later, authorities confirmed the plane crash in Pasaquina, La Unión, where all crew members died.
“There are days when you can’t believe what’s happening, you think it’s not true…” wrote one of his colleagues.
David will be remembered as a young man passionate about his profession, distinguished by his abilities and skills in reporting. Coming from a humble family, he managed to excel and achieve his dreams.
Rest in peace, David! We will remember you fondly.
