A foreign national from Eritrea was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of raping his ex-wife and brutally assaulting her in his apartment in Petah Tikva. Today (Sunday) his detention was extended until Thursday.

Investigators from the Petah Tikva Police Station began an investigation over the weekend upon receiving a report regarding a foreign woman from Eritrea, who was brutally beaten and allegedly raped at knifepoint.

An initial inquiry on the ground revealed that the victim arrived at her divorced apartment in the city, where the suspect silenced her and raped her by threatening her with a knife while beating her severely.

Forensic investigators arrived at the scene and collected evidence from the scene. As the investigation progressed, the station police arrested the suspect, a foreign national from Eritrea about 30 years old, and his detention was extended until Thursday.
