With a convincing performance, Manchester City has finally found its way out of the crisis. A goal from Niclas Füllkrug didn’t help opponents West Ham. In the meantime, the Guardiola team was worried about goalkeeper Ortega Moreno.
Manchester City has finally rehabilitated itself. After a week-long negative series at the end of last year, coach Pep Guardiola’s team followed up their liberation against Leicester City (2-0) with another three points. City clearly won 4-1 (2-0) against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
The man of the day was ex-BVB star Erling Haaland, who made the decision with a brace (42nd and 55th minute). His team had previously taken the lead thanks to an own goal from Vladimir Coufal. (10th). Phil Foden even increased the score to 4-0 (58th).
West Ham were at least able to celebrate a consolation goal in the end. National player Niclas Füllkrug contributed this (71st). It was the second goal of the season for the attacker, who moved from Dortmund to London before the season.
Shortly afterwards there was a moment of shock involving DFB keeper Stefan Ortega Moreno. The Manchester City goalkeeper intercepted a cross, but then fell unhappily on his back after some physical contact with his national team colleague Füllkrug. Ortega Moreno had to be treated for two minutes following the painful impact, but was ultimately able to continue playing.
City remains sixth in the table thanks to the three points against West Ham, but is close to the top spots. Chelsea FC made another mistake there. After the draw against Everton (0-0) and the defeats against Fulham (1-2) and at Ipswich (0-2), the “Blues” were unable to win in the city duel at Crystal Palace. In the end it was 1:1 (0:1).
Former Dortmund player Jadon Sancho gave Chelsea the lead with a great solo. Cole Palmer scored his 13th goal of the season (14th). But Palace equalized shortly before the end. Ex-Mainz player Jean-Philippe Mateta was there and snatched three points from Chelsea (82′). Coach Enzo Maresca’s team remains in fourth place, but falls further behind leaders Liverpool, city rivals Arsenal and surprise team Nottingham.
