The WhatsApp chat application intends to stop support for a number of smartphones that run outdated operating systems, as the phones will not receive any support or security or technical updates in the future in the coming weeks.
According to 9to5Mac, WhatsApp will permanently stop support for all iPhone phones running iOS 10 and iOS 11, as these phones will no longer benefit from any new updates released by the application after the date of October 24.
WhatsApp advises users to upgrade to iOS 12 to not stop WhatsApp support and to keep receiving any security or technical support, but if the upgrade is impossible, they will lose all upcoming features.
Among the phones on which the WhatsApp application will stop after October 24 are the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c phones, and it is not yet known if WhatsApp will also stop support for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus phones in the coming period or not.
All iPhone users running iOS 10 and iOS 11 should go to Settings, then General, and then tap Software Update to select the latest version of iOS to stop WhatsApp support for them.
