/ A new report revealed, on Friday, that human consumption has accelerated significantly in recent years, reaching 500 billion tons of materials in the last six years, which is almost equivalent to what was consumed in the entire twentieth century.

According to a report by the Dutch organization “Circle Economy”, while discussions around the world have escalated about the circular economy, sustainability, and protecting the environment and resources, the figures showed that the circular economy cycle has declined from a low level to a lower level.

The share of used materials consumed globally fell from 9.1% to 7.2% between 2018 and 2023, while talk of the circular economy tripled in the same period.

The circular economy is described as an economic system that aims to eliminate waste and the continuous use of resources, and is based on the principles of reuse, repair, remanufacture, and recycling to create a closed-loop system that reduces resource consumption, waste, pollution, and carbon emissions.
