Shockwave therapy effective in chronic tendon complaints

by time news

The role of Shockwave therapy has become increasingly prominent in the physiotherapeutic treatment of chronic tendon complaints in recent years.

Shockwave therapy uses shock waves; these are generated in the treatment head of the shock wave device and delivered specifically to the place in the body to be treated. Usually this is on the affected tendon or the tendon attachment to the bone. Due to the energy of the shock waves, the body reacts by releasing various recovery-stimulating substances. The treatment can be painful but otherwise risk-free.

Shockwave therapy is especially effective for chronic tendon complaints. These are often persistent complaints that keep coming back despite intensive therapy and sometimes even injections. These complaints occur in both athletes and non-athletes and examples include heel spurs, Achilles tendon complaints and knee tendon complaints. Tendon complaints around the shoulder and tennis or golfer’s arm complaints can also be treated well with Shockwave.

Within the physiotherapeutic examination, an attempt will always be made first to determine the nature of the complaints and to find out the cause of the complaints. Shockwave can then be used as part of the treatment in addition to exercise therapy, massage and/or training.
