The historical drama Shogun has collected 25 Emmy nominations, the most of any contender in this year’s most prestigious awards of the American television industry. The series Medvěd then broke the record among comedies with 23 nominations. Both titles come from the workshop of the production company FX, which thus experiences the dominance of the otherwise reserved television HBO, according to the AP agency.

Among other things, Shogun is nominated for best drama. In the most prestigious category of the Emmy Awards this year, the series Boj o moc, which won it three times in recent years, is missing, as the creators ended it last year after four series.

The plot of the drama Shogun is set in 17th century Japan and tells about the political machinations of the local rulers, but also of representatives of the European powers of the time. It also has a representative in the main acting categories, namely Anna Sawai on the female side and Hiroyuki Sanada, known for example from the movie The Last Samurai, among the men. A total of eight series are competing for the title of best drama, including The Crown and The Three-Body Problem from the Netflix video library or Fallout from the Prime Video platform.

Among the comedies, Medvěd can build on last year’s successes, as it has a chance to repeat the victory in the categories of best comedy series and best performance by an actor in a leading role in a comedy title. With 23 nominations, the series about chef Carmy and his colleagues in a restaurant in Chicago, USA, surpassed by one the previous record of Studio 30 Rock, which collected 22 nominations 15 years ago.

In addition to The Struggle for Power, HBO does not have other successful series White Lotus or The Last of Us in the game this year, but it scored with the series True Detective: Night Country. The six-part detective story is the most successful among miniseries with 19 nominations, and actress Jodie Foster, who portrayed the police chief in a remote Alaskan town, also has a chance for an award.

The winners of the 76th annual Emmy Awards will be announced on September 15 (on the night of September 15-16 CEST).
