Shooting at Hospital in Downtown Portland Leaves One Person Injured
Portland, Oregon – Police are on the lookout for a suspect following a shooting incident at a hospital in downtown Portland. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, July 22, 2023, left at least one person injured, according to authorities.
Officers from the Portland Police Department responded to a call about a person with a gun inside Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center. The facility was immediately placed on lockdown while officers, along with the Crisis Response Team, carried out their response.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that the suspected shooter had already left the hospital premises. It was reported that shots had been fired inside the hospital, resulting in one person sustaining injuries. However, the exact nature and severity of the injuries have not been disclosed.
In an effort to locate the suspect, officers conducted a search at a nearby Fred Meyer grocery store. Despite the evacuation and search, authorities have not yet apprehended the suspect. Sgt. Kevin Allen stated that the incident is still considered an active tactical situation.
The search for the suspected shooter involves officers from various units across the city. As a result, the hospital will remain on lockdown as the investigation continues. Jonathan Avery, the hospital’s chief operating officer, described the incident as “extremely scary.” He advised the public not to visit the hospital until an all-clear signal is given.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler also urged residents to remain vigilant and stay alert until further notice. The mayor’s message was shared on Twitter, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
