Former US President Donald Trump’s hearing may have been impaired by a bullet to his ear, a German surgeon has said.
BILD journalists have once again taken a close look at how Donald Trump managed to survive the assassination attempt.
The infographic shows that the shooter was likely aiming for the Republican’s right temple as he faced the crowd. However, the bullet only grazed his ear as Trump turned to the right, facing the shooter. The former president himself claims that he turned his head to read data from a chart on illegal immigration.
The video of the assassination attempt also shows that in the first moments Trump does not realize what happened and puts his hand to his ear, as if checking what is wrong with it. German plastic surgeon, Dr. Jens Altmann, told BILD that the bullet tore off the upper part of the auricle, or helix. This is the cartilage covered with skin. Blood came from there, but the Republican did not feel pain. However, the eardrum could have been damaged by the energy of the bullet, the doctor noted.
Altmann explained that Donald Trump probably did not feel pain at the time of the blow, as such events release adrenaline and cortisol, causing symptoms of shock. He added that the fact that Trump did not need surgery indicates that the soft tissue injury was minor. What is important now is to see if further surgery is needed to restore the shape of the ear, as well as to prevent infection. Specialists will definitely check whether the eardrum is damaged.
