Five Unhoused People Shot in Las Vegas, One Fatally

December 1, 2023, 11:45 PM ET

At least one person was fatally shot and four were wounded Friday in Las Vegas in the area of Charleston Boulevard and U.S. 95 at 5:30 p.m. local time, police said.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told ABC affiliate KTNV that the victims were “unhoused.”

The victims were transported to University Medical Center and are currently being treated for their injuries.

One victim, a male in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. Two other males in their 30s are listed in stable condition while another male of a similar age is listed as critical. One male in his late teens is said to be in stable condition.

Police told KTNV that the victims were shot by the same person who is still at large.

The shooting is not connected to three men who were experiencing homelessness and were fatally shot, potentially by a serial killer in Los Angeles, the lead LAPD investigator told ABC News. All three victims were killed this week while sleeping alone on a sidewalk or an alley, the LAPD warned at a news conference on Friday.

The cases appear similar but are not related, police said.

Officers are currently processing the crime scene in the early morning hours and are investigating whether there is a threat to the wider community.

ABC News’ Emily Shapiro and Alex Stone contributed to this report.
