Shooting over ‘racial hatred’ leaves three dead in the US

A white man shot dead three black people in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday before committing suicide, officials said, citing “racial hatred” as the motive for the attack.

“His target was a certain group of people, black people, that he said he wanted to kill. And that’s very clear,” Sheriff TK Waters said of the shooter.

The perpetrator of the attack was a man in his 20s who had written manifestos detailing “his loathsome ideology of hate”, Waters said at a news conference. The gunman opened fire on a store and was carrying two guns, he added.

The Federal Police (FBI) will investigate the attack as a hate crime, said Sherri Onks, FBI special agent in the Jacksonville area.
