A 23-year-old man from Romania is said to have carried out a foray into Austria as a shoplifter. After a coup in Salzburg-Taxham, however, a shop detective stopped him.

According to the police report, the 23-year-old Romanian is accused of having committed several shoplifting in Austria between September 13 and October 27.

On Wednesday morning he tore a tablet out of its packaging in a shop in Salzburg-Taxham and stowed it in his backpack. When he left the shop he was stopped by the shop detective and subsequently handed over to the police.

The police report then states: “The further investigations showed that he had already committed several shoplifting in Wiener Neustadt, Linz and Salzburg, with damage amounting to around 2,000 euros.”

The Romanian confessed and stated that he wanted to finance the return trip to his home country through the thefts. According to the order of the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office, the Romanian was admitted to the Salzburg prison.
