The police were on a large scale in the city center of Graz on Friday evening. Shots fired at a law firm. Two dead who police said a man shot a woman. He then committed suicide. The murder weapon is a rifle. The reason is not yet known.
The man entered the offices of the law firm on Kaiserfeldgasse in the center of Graz around 11:35 am with the rifle. According to the current state of the investigation, he fired several shots at the 23-year-old employee of the law firm from the long gun he legally owned. The woman, who was alone in the office, was fatally shot. The 29-year-old then committed suicide. It is the 14th femicide in Austria this year.
Big operation over
Initially, the police spoke of a “suspected violent crime” and two people who were seriously injured. “Someone allegedly handled a firearm,” the executive also wrote on X.
There were large barriers in the Kaiserfeldgasse – Neutorgasse area. Police asked people to avoid the area. Trams were rerouted. According to the authorities, there is no longer any acute danger. The major operation ended shortly after 1 pm The barriers at Marburgerkai, Kaiserfeldgasse, Radetzkystrasse and Herrengasse were gradually dismantled.

The police received the emergency call around 12 pm The incident took place at Kaiserfeldgasse 27. Law offices, a notary’s office and facilities for various therapies are located there. A woman who works at the law firm said she heard “three noises” around 12 pm Her employee responded well and immediately called to “lock everything”. She heard a woman screaming in the hallway and noticed someone running downstairs. The office is on the 3rd floor, the incident happened on one of the other floors.
At midday a police helicopter circled the scene and the Cobra and service dog handlers were also on duty. Rescue and crisis intervention teams were also on the scene. The police crime scene team found evidence on the fourth floor of the apartment building in the evening. The State Criminal Police Office began the investigation. The background is not yet clear.
