Shots in the New York subway: police are looking for a 62-year-old suspect

by time news

A 62-year-old man who is said to have made bizarre threats on YouTube is now wanted as a suspect in the Brooklyn subway attack. This writes the “New York Post” and other US media.

The suspect is thought to be the renter of the U-Haul van, which is said to be connected to the crime. “Mr. Mayor, I am a victim of your mental health program,” the suspect is said to have said in a lengthy YouTube video. Accordingly, he is said to have a diagnosed mental impairment for which he is being treated. He also describes the psychiatric services in the video as a “horror show”.

The 62-year-old man, who resides in Philadelphia and Wisconsin, is therefore classified as a “person of interest”, but it is still unclear whether he could also be the perpetrator, it said at the press conference. So far no one has been arrested.

It is also suspected that the man is the author of several publications on social media. In it, the author complains about New York, Mayor Eric Adams and homelessness, among other things. The authorities did not want to give any further details. The police protection of Adams will be increased as a precaution, it said. Adams is currently in isolation at his residence on Manhattan’s Upper East Side due to an infection with the corona virus.

A key to the van and a credit card used to rent the vehicle from Philadelphia were found at the scene, police and law enforcement officials said. (DPO)
