‘Will the government provide sanitary napkins for Rs.20-30?’ To the school girl’s question, ‘Should the government provide family planning methods and condoms as well?’ As a woman IAS officer in Bihar has reacted with anger, it has caused controversy. The district collector has explained about this.

A program titled ‘Sashakt Beti, Samriddh Bihar’ (Empowered Daughters, Prosperous Bihar) was held in Patna, Bihar. The event was organized on Tuesday in association with UNICEF and other organizations. In it, the students posed some questions to IAS officer Harjot Kaur Bamra, who heads the state’s Women and Child Development Corporation. He also answered it openly. Then a student asked him, ‘Will the government provide sanitary napkins for Rs.20-30?’ He questioned.

Bamra replied, ‘Tomorrow you will ask the government to give you jeans. Then why not give them a nice pair of shoes? Also, you would expect the government to give you family planning methods and condoms as well,” he asked in reply. The students who were against it said that it is the votes of the people that make the government. Officer Bamra replied, “This is the height of stupidity. Then don’t vote. Be like Pakistan. Why are you voting for money? Or for services?” he questioned.

That means the officer wanted to teach the students from their answers. “Why do you want to take anything from the government? Such thinking is wrong. Do it for yourself” he said. This debate was held in front of 9th and 10th class students.

The students further said that the toilet walls in their school are broken and students often enter through it. The officer replied, “Do you have separate toilets in your house? “If you ask a lot of things in different places, how does that work?” he questioned.

And to the reply, “Be Pakistani,” one student replied, “I’m an Indian.” Why should I go to Pakistan?” he asked in reply.

Why are the government concessions after the students there? They questioned. After that, Bamra took the answer class again. In it, “Thinking should be changed. You have to decide what you want to be in the future. You have to make this decision. The government cannot take it for you. Do you want to stay where you are sitting now? Or where I am?” he questioned.

After the false news about this program was published, “It is false information; It has been changed maliciously,” Bamrah explained today. Also, everyone knows that I am a silent fighter for women’s rights and empowerment. Every time some people who have lost by spreading false information against me have embarked on such despicable attempts to tarnish my reputation,” he said.
