Even a seemingly banal rite can hide pitfalls. But with the advice of the dermatologist it is possible to wash in the right way without risking damage to the skin and hair.

of Simona Marchetti

Dermatologists agree: there are no contraindications for daily showering and this applies not only to adults but also to children. «The important thing is to avoid prolonged washing – he recommends Dr. Cristiana Colonna, Head of the Atopic Dermatitis Outpatient Department of the Pediatric Dermatology Department of the Milan Polyclinic – because the more our skin is in water, the greater the loss of water from the body to the outside. Consequently, reducing the contact time to 5/10 minutes avoids the dryness effect and this rule is essential especially if you have “atopic” skin, that is predisposed to “atopic dermatitis”: in this case, even more so, the showers can be daily, but necessarily rapid, while baths every 5/7 days are to be avoided but lasting 15 minutes “. And for eczema sufferers another advice comes by Dr. Derek V Chan, who specializes in medical and cosmetic dermatology in New York, which suggests “moisturizing the skin within five minutes of getting out of the shower to help it retain moisture.”
