“Shrinking”, “Fauda”, “L’Epreuve du feu”, “Profession: reporter”: our ideas for series

by time news

THE MORNING LIST

We will leave California so as not to be too out of place to head for Israel, another series land. And we will venture further, in the recent history of India and in the nostalgia of the 1980s in Australia. Who said winter wasn’t good for travelling?

“Shrinking”: Jason Segel on both sides of the couch

Latest production in a salvo of series which take place in the office of a psychotherapist, Shrinking reminds the fond memories of fans of How I Met Your Mother the talent of Jason Segel, here in the shoes of a Californian therapist: by dint of helping his patients overcome their pain, he no longer knows what to do with his own, a year after the accidental death of his wife. Series co-creators veteran Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein and Segel himselfresolutely take the side of comedy to tell the story of Jimmy’s recovery.

From this altogether classic tale of resilience, they thus draw a choral mini-series with formidable mechanics, impeccably dialogued and interpreted by actors experienced in the exercise. And Jason Segel, who never ends (even very well) playing the same thing, almost pales in comparison to Harrison Ford in the role of his boss, a septuagenarian suffering from Parkinson’s with a humor as dark as it is delicious. ; or the stunning Jessica Williams (Love Life) as a young divorcee all vibrating with suppressed anger. quite close to Ted Lasso (of which Bill Lawrence is also a co-creator) for benevolence and comic precision, Shrinking ranks among the top comedies produced by Apple TV+. As a remedy for the temperatures at the end of January, we could not have dreamed of better. Me. F.

Series created by Jason Segel, Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. With Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Michael Urie (EU, 2023, 10 × 30 minutes). Two episodes on January 27 on Apple TV+, then one episode per week on Fridays.

“Fauda ”: Israeli special forces in the heart of darkness

Always darker, always dramatically effective, season 4 should meet the expectations of addicts to Fauda. A quick reminder: meaning “chaos” in Arabic, Fauda features the special forces unit of the Israel Defense Forces whose members are trained to blend in with the Arab population. In Season 1, Doron Kavillio (played by Lior Raz, who also co-created the series with journalist Avi Issacharoff) and his comrades were called upon to hunt down a Hamas fighter. In Season 2, the adversary was an ISIS militant. And the third made us experience Gaza from the inside. When season 4 begins, Doron is living in retirement on the farm of his father, who was killed by the Islamic State. At least until Captain Ayub, head of internal security in Israel and so well embodied by Itzik Cohen, is kidnapped.
