The ICC Men’s and Women’s Cricketers of the Month Awards for the month of January have been announced. There were three male actors in the shortlist which was announced earlier. Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj, New Zealand batter Devon Conway and Indian opening batter Shubhman Gill were involved. Gill received this month’s award based on his brilliant performance in white ball cricket.

Among the women cricketers, England Under-19 captain Grace Scrivens was awarded the award. She is the youngest female cricketer to win this award. The English women’s player won the award based on her all-round performance in the Under-19 World Cup. Under the leadership of the star, the team entered the finals but lost to India led by Shefali Verma.

Gill has been in great form this month, including a double century in ODIs. The 23-year-old scored 567 runs in the ODI format alone. Gill scored a double century in the ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad. The young batsman also holds the record of becoming the youngest player to score a double century in ODI cricket. He scored 208 runs from just 149 balls including 28 fours. Gill had earlier scored a century against Sri Lanka and another in the series against the Kiwis.

Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj is currently ranked number one in ODI cricket. With Jasprit Bumrah sidelined due to injury, Siraj is leading the Indian pace bowling line-up. In the series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, the player gave a brilliant performance. New Zealand batsman Devon Conway started the year with a Test century against Pakistan. He will also score a century in the third ODI against India. The player scored 138 runs from 100 balls and gave a brilliant performance.

Gill is the first Indian cricketer to win this award after former Indian captain Virat Kohli. Kohli was awarded Player of the Month in October 2022. The ICC announces the best cricketers every month based on global voting by former international cricketers, journalists and fans registered on the ICC website.
