Thus, this international mass highlighted, for each region, the geo-climatic specificity, the agricultural policy, the local products, and the agrotourism, within the framework of the territorial breakdown of the plans and strategies of Morocco in the agricultural sector.
Questioned by MAP about the presence of the regions at the Show, regional directors of agriculture from 4 regions of the Kingdom spoke about the agricultural assets and potential of their region, as well as the territorial implementation of the Génération Green strategy.
In this sense, the Regional Director of Agriculture of the Oriental, Mohamed Bousfoul, indicated that the 15th edition of SIAM saw the participation of the Oriental region in the institutional pole, as well as the local products pole, in particular with 37 cooperatives presenting their products.
He also said that the stand dedicated to the Oriental highlighted the region’s assets as well as the role of the State in addressing the various challenges, particularly the rainfall deficit.
Regarding the region’s flagship products, Mr. Bousfoul mentioned olives, almonds, sugar beets, and red meats, noting that the Region will continue its efforts to further promote these products and enable farmers to increase their productivity.
For his part, the Regional Director of Agriculture of Souss-Massa, Noureddine Kessa, stressed that the Show is an opportunity for the region, which is of crucial importance on a national scale in the agricultural sector, to showcase its assets.
During this remarkable edition, Souss-Massa presented the progress of the Generation Green strategy at the regional level, particularly with regard to the creation of an agricultural middle class, in addition to important projects for young people and women, noted Mr. Kessa.
Regarding the agricultural development of the region, he affirmed that it is rich in production chains characterized by significant added value, particularly citrus fruits and vegetables which ensure the supply of the national market, with approximately 1,600,000 tons annually, highlighting the important project of desalination of sea water in Chtouka.
For his part, the Regional Director of Agriculture of Fez-Meknes, Kamal Hidane, noted that the participation of the Fez-Meknes region is of major importance for the Show, given that it is the region that hosts the SIAM, adding that it also represents a region with high added value in the agricultural sector at the national level, through a contribution with various products, in particular large crops, cereals, vegetables, olives, fruit trees…
In terms of the implementation of the Generation Green strategy in the region, Mr. Hidane reviewed several structuring projects, including the preservation of the “Sahl Saiss”, as well as the mobilization of more than 120 million m2 to protect vegetable production, noting also that the region was also present with more than 45 cooperatives in the local products pavilion.
The Regional Director of Agriculture of Marrakech-Safi, Abdelaziz Bousraref, indicated that this region is among the most important geographical areas in terms of agriculture, noting that it nevertheless faces major challenges relating in particular to climate change and the scarcity of water resources.
In this regard, he specified that the regional directorate of agriculture is working to deploy significant efforts to manage the scarcity and ensure the production of wheat, olives, fruit trees, citrus fruits, and vegetables, thanks to the Green Morocco Plan which has made it possible to save irrigation water.
Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, SIAM, which is one of the largest events in Africa dedicated to agriculture and stakeholders in the agricultural sector, is an essential event to present Morocco’s progress in the field and confirm the crucial role that agriculture plays as one of the major levers of economic growth.
The United Kingdom is the country of honor for this 2023 edition, which marks the return of this mass after three years of suspension due to the Covid-19 crisis.
