Siegfried Wolf: Riddles about the multi-millionaire’s communal apartment

by time news

Actually, the Viennese council flats should guarantee affordable living space for people with lower incomes. Now it turned out that the multi-millionaire Siegried Wolf was registered in one of these council flats in Favoriten until recently.

As research by “Profile” shows, Siegfried Wolf is said to have been registered in a municipal building in Vienna-Favoriten until recently. The official registration is said to have existed since 1978, and until 2003 the main residence was said to have been there. At that time, Wolf had already held high-ranking managerial positions, as reported by “Profile”. It was not until November 2021 that the alleged place of residence was deregistered. A sign with the name “Wolf” still hangs on the door.

As a community building manager?

Siegfried Wolf worked in top management at Magna from 1995 to 2010. After that he worked in the corporate empire of the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska. His income must have been correspondingly high in the past decades. In the previous year, Wolf then took over a plant of the truck manufacturer MAN in Upper Austria and demanded wage reductions from the employees. He himself was registered in the municipal building.

At the same time, according to “Profil”, Wolf should have “real estate assets” and own a large farm with 50,000 square meters of land in Lower Austria – and has been since 1986. In Vienna he should also have several apartments – including some in the first district. According to “Profile”, the millionaire rents one of them for 39,500 euros a month.

Government criticism at the door

Particularly bizarre: A local inspection of the news magazine shows that a sticker criticizing the former Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) is attached to the door of the apartment in Favoriten. As for Wolf, he didn’t want to answer the “Profile”. In any case, in the past he had made positive comments about Kurz.

“Owned more than 50 years ago”

Wolf also left open why he was registered there until 2021. His spokesman is said to have only said that Wolf moved into the apartment “more than 50 years ago as an apprentice” but “hasn’t lived there for a very long time”. Wolf completed his training as a master toolmaker in 1981. Other members of the family are said to have lived in the apartment – “Profil” assumes that the apartment is passed on in the family.

At the same time, the multi-millionaire Wolf is also being investigated: the business and corruption prosecutor’s office accuses him of having helped a tax officer to get a dream job with the help of the then Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, Thomas Schmid. In return, Wolf is said to have received a tax rebate of more than 600,000 euros. It is the presumption of innocence.
