Speaking at this round table initiated by the Higher Council for Education, Training and Scientific Research (CSEFRS) on the subject of “School textbooks and extracurricular books”, the participants recalled that since 2002, the National Charter for Education and Training has recommended that school textbooks be multiple for the same subject and the same level, thus opting for an opening to competition for the design and production of school textbooks, whereas in the past, this task was the responsibility of the supervisory ministry.
They also discussed the challenges related to the development of school books and the regional specificities of school textbooks.
According to them, improving school textbooks requires competition in order to better support innovation.
In addition, they advocated the establishment of a programme contract between the ministry and publishers instead of the specifications currently in force.
In relation to the digitalization of school textbooks, the participants highlighted the weak infrastructure for the development of a digital platform for school books, particularly at the publisher level.
In short, the school book is a link between society and the school which advocates the integration of the student and the facilitation of their learning.
This round table was led by Kamil Hoballah, member of the Publishers Association, El Khammar El Alami, member of the textbook development committees and Mohammed Zernine, of the CSEFRS. It was supervised by Fouad Chafiqi, member of the Council and moderated by Ibrahim Baamrani, researcher and author, specialist in education and training issues.
The Council’s participation programme at SIEL (June 1-11) includes a series of round tables dealing with issues related to the challenges of the education, training and scientific research system in our country.
The Council will conclude its participation in the 28th edition of SIEL with a closing conference on “Artificial intelligence in the service of education and scientific research” (June 10).
