At the initiative of the Latvian government, signatures are being collected for a petition to study public opinion regarding the proposal to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of the country.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to the portal “Baltnews”, at the moment the petition has managed to collect 59 out of 10 thousand necessary signatures.

The information section of the petition notes that the United States has already deployed nuclear weapons on the territory of Belgium, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, including countries where there is a military base.

Taking this factor into account, the authors of the petition called on the Latvian Saeima to hold talks with NATO partners on the delivery of a similar arsenal to the country.

It was also noted that this step will not only ensure more reliable security for the country, but will also lead to attracting foreign investment to Latvia.

It should be noted that recently, US presidential candidate Donald Trump stated that China, with the current rate of nuclear arsenal buildup, could surpass the US in this indicator in the future.
