Toronto: Sikh organizations have publicly accused the Indian intelligence of conducting the operation in which Sikh terrorists wanted by India in Canada, England and Pakistan were gunned down one after the other.
Sikh terrorism took root in India during Indira Gandhi’s tenure as Prime Minister. A time when hundreds of Sikh terrorists, including Sikh terrorist Bhindaranwale, were shot dead by our army inside the Amritsar Golden Temple in Punjab and blood flowed. Indira Gandhi’s assassination happened as a huge price for this. The Sikh terrorists were those who fled India that day.
These terrorists took shelter as Indian political refugees in many countries like Canada, USA, UK, Australia. But these terrorists did not give up only the Bhindaranwale dream of a separate country for their Sikhs. They continued to carry out many terrorist acts including airplane bombings on foreign soil and Indian soil till 1990s. Since then, Punjab terrorism has gradually died down and merged into mainstream politics.
The Sikh terrorists, who could not bear to see Punjab become a park of peace, again started movements under new names and tried to penetrate into India and create chaos. It was the Sikh extremists who infiltrated the farmers’ struggle for a year amid the scorching heat, bitter cold and freezing snow in Delhi and caused great confusion. It was necessary for our country to suppress the Sikh extremism in Punjab again before it started running rampant. The country is taking steps for that.
