Silence 4 Announces Comeback Tour to Celebrate 30 Years of Music in 2025

by time news

The Portuguese band Silence 4 announced this Tuesday their return to active status for four concerts to be held throughout 2025 in Leiria, Porto, and Lisbon, as part of a series of shows celebrating the band’s 30th anniversary.

Formed in Leiria in 1995, Silence 4 will return to the stage for two performances at “home,” at the Teatro José Lúcio da Silva in Leiria, on June 13 and 14, and at the end of 2025: at the Pavilhão Rosa Mota in Porto on November 15, and at the Meo Arena in Lisbon on December 13.

This marks the second comeback for Silence 4, who in 2014, after more than a decade of hiatus, held a series of five shows. Ten years ago, the event served to celebrate the recovery of singer Sofia Lisboa from leukemia and to commemorate past successes.

This set of performances announced this Monday aims to celebrate 30 years of the band’s journey, which left a mark on national music in the late 1990s and early 2000s, achieving sales of 240,000 copies with their debut album, Silence Becomes It (1998).

Composed of David Fonseca (vocals and guitar), Tozé Pedrosa (drums), Sofia Lisboa (vocals), and Rui Costa (guitar and bass), Silence 4 released a second album, Only Pain is Real (2000), recorded in London, UK. In total, with just these two releases, the band sold over 300,000 copies.

Among the band’s main hits are songs such as Borrow, My Friends, To Give and Only Pain is Real, along with the acoustic version of A Little Respect by Erasure, which helped launch Silence 4 during the 1990s.

Shortly after two concerts at the coliseums in Lisbon and Porto in 2001, which led to a CD and DVD release, the group suspended their activities, citing burnout.

In 2003, bassist Rui Costa left the group, and David Fonseca began his solo career with the first original album, Sing Me Something New.

Sofia Lisboa participated in some musical projects, such as Ellas, with Raquel Ralha, while drummer Tozé Pedrosa focused on teaching. In recent years, Rui Costa has been involved in projects like Filarmónica Gil, A Caruma, or Companhia do Canto Popular.
