The Palafrugell singer Sílvia Pérez Cruz has just turned forty and feels “at the center”, a place “from which you can reflect on the first stages of life and understand a little better what comes after”; perhaps for this reason, “in a natural way”, he has created a long and circular record, which reviews an entire life.

All life, one daywhat goes on sale today and presents tonight at Municipal Theater of Girona in the Strenes festival, there are 21 songs, arranged in five movements, in which the artist from Palafrugell offers 69 minutes of music, which drinks from infinite sources and flows unclassifiable, skirting many styles and welcoming all kinds of sounds.

“Maybe it’s a long record – the author admits – but I’m in a fertile moment, with a lot of creativity, and I love to think that, if we can watch a series and there’s no problem, why not make a journey of an hour and a little and let yourself be carried away?”.

“If you want to listen to just one song, there’s no problem, because I’ve taken care of them one by one so that they have a life of their own,” adds the Empordano native.

A work with five movements

the disc All life, one day starts with a first part dedicated to childhoodwith four comfortable songs and follows with a second one inspired by youth, which moves away from the safe ground of childhood to experience more angular sounds.

Then comes a more intimate third part, which embraces the age of forty to sixty; a fourth with more weight, more slowness and references to death; and a fifth that is a rebirth, more lively and rhythmic.

Sílvia Pérez Cruz has just entered the third movement of the disc, that of forty years, an age that is “a strong change, a new stage and, although some warn you that it will be difficult, I feel good, with energy and certain serenity”.

“Very much alive”

Professionally, she perceives herself as “very alive” and has wanted to leave “the best and the worst” of herself in this complex album, which “transforms all vital processes into songs” and in which, she doesn’t just talk about herselfbut is accompanied by many other voices.

Society tends to focus more on the beginnings of artists than on their subsequent evolution and we are missing the light and darkness of many creators who have a lot to tell

Total, ninety people participate in the albumamong them a choir of thirty singers, all of them prestigious musicians, that Sílvia Pérez Cruz wants to reunite for the live presentation of the album in Barcelona, on May 24 and 25.

Liliana Herrero, Juan Quintero, Pedro Rossi, Natàlia Lafourcade, Salvador Sobral, Pepe Habichuela, Carmen Linares, Carles Benavent, Diego Carrasco, Roly Berrío, Rita Payés and an Italian choir sing in different themes, turning the disc in “a collective songwhich creates a community from all the solitudes united».

Loneliness of all ages, because from Liliana Herrero, 74, to Rita Payés, 23, all the moments of life have a place in this “claiming the beauty of all stages of life”.

“Society tends to focus more on the principles of artists than on their subsequent evolution and we are missing the light and darkness of many creators who have a lot to explain”, affirms the artist from Palafrugell with conviction.

In fact, lthe collaboration that has the most weight on the disc is that of the most veteran, the Argentinian Liliana Herreroa woman whom Sílvia admires, as a singer and as a person, and who gave her the key to focus on this album in a conversation they had during the recording of the composition that gives the album its name.

“Traveling inspires me, nourishes me and represents me. The music I make is born from the countries where I recorded this album»

This track with Liliana Herrero and the ones with Juan Quintero were recorded in Argentina, Natalia Lafourcade’s in Mexico, Roly Berrío’s in Cuba and the rest in Spain.

“Traveling inspires me, nourishes me and represents me. The music I make comes from the countries where I recorded this album”, says the singer-songwriter from Emporda.

Proof of this is that the song he performs with Liliana Herrero has a bit of zambathe one he sings with Natalia Fourcade is close to the bolero, the arrangements of the piece recorded in Cuba capture the flavor of this Caribbean country and there are several songs in Catalan.

“You have to have strong roots, but, at the same time, you have to be brave and keep looking for the stars, and get lost,” concludes the singer, who tickets sold out weeks ago for this evening’s concert in Girona.
