The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, led the delivery of the academic condition of Doctor Honoris Causa in Social Sciences and Humanities from the University of Havana to the troubadour Silvio Rodríguez.
From the hands of the rector of the institution, Miriam Nicado, the Cuban troubadour received the most important award conferred by the house of higher studies in the capital.
Nicado recalled the work of the founder of the Nueva Trova movement in the Caribbean nation and Professor Manuel Calviño spoke words of praise for the artist, in an act where several Cuban artists and intellectuals participated.
Calviño stressed that the troubadour has been a sleepless inquirer of Cuban society, and has fought to make it better. “The Revolution belongs to those who feel it and embrace it, and he unequivocally embraced it,” he said.
His inauguration was the last action of the professional program of the International Scientific Convention of the University of Havana, Saber UH.
