Simona Quadarella Secures Spot in 1500m Final as Italian Swimmers Gear Up for Exciting Evening at Paris 2024 Olympics

by time news

Only the alien Katie Ledecky stands ahead of her, tonight there is great anticipation for the finals of Paltrinieri and De Tullio in the 800 freestyle and the semifinals of Miressi in the 100 freestyle and Razzetti and Carini in the 200 butterfly, while the men’s 4×200 freestyle is out.

Simona Quadarella advances to the final of the 1500 freestyle event at the Swimming Olympics, ongoing at the Defense Arena in Paris until Sunday, August 4.

The final scheduled for tomorrow evening will also see the current world and European champion from Rome 2022 on the starting blocks.

The athlete from the Circolo Canottieri Aniene, coached by Christian Minotti, delivered an excellent performance, in line with what was necessary during the qualifying phase swimming in 15’51″19, second only to the American reigning Olympic champion and “exceptional” Katie Ledecky, with thirty-seven medals between World Championships and Olympics, who stopped the clock at 15’47″43.

Bronze in the 800 freestyle in Tokyo three years ago, Simona Quadarella secures the central lane in the final next to the top athlete for the overall win, followed by the French adopted athlete Anastasiia Kirpichnikova who clocked 15’52″46, the only three remaining from the Tokyo Olympic final.

It went quite well, the German and the French helped me this morning to get off to a good start – stated Simona Quadarella – I swam calmly until the 1000 meters, then I started to feel a bit of fatigue.

I had miscounted the laps and at one point, when I realized it, I felt a bit demoralized, but this can happen even after three thousand experiences. It’s fine, this was the time I wanted to swim this morning. I wanted to try to feel what I could do this morning, so I pushed in the last 500 meters and then, mentally, leading is another thing.”

Out of the final instead is Ginevra Taddeucci, Fiamme Oro and Circolo Canottieri Napoli, finishing 11th in 16’12″45 in a race that served only to “qualify” for the 10 km in open water.

Swimming Olympics Paris, Simona Quadarella flying into the final of the 1500 with the second-best time, Razzetti, Carini, and Miressi also advance, while Deplano and the men’s 4×200 freestyle are out.

In the previous 200-meter men’s butterfly, Alberto Razzetti, fifth in the 400 medley the other night, and Giacomo Carini advance to the semifinals, respectively with the fifth and 12th best times.

The vice-world champion and current European bronze of the Fiamme Gialle and Genova Nuoto My Sport, coached by Stefano Franceschi in Livorno, records 1’54″78, just 13 hundredths off his personal best set in Doha for the world silver and five tenths off the Italian record of Federico Burdisso.

The athlete of the Fiamme Gialle and Canottieri Vittorino da Feltre, trained at the Federal Center in Verona by Matteo Giunta, records 1’55″81.

In the lead is the Hungarian reigning Olympic champion and world record holder Kristof Milak, who stops the clock at 1’53″92.

In the 100 freestyle, Alessandro Miressi also advances to the semifinals, one of the Azzurri arrows from the bronze winning 4×100 freestyle from the first day.

The current world champion from Fiamme Oro and Centro Nuoto Torino, trained by Antonio Satta, silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with the 4×100 freestyle and bronze with the 4×100 medley, records 48″25, which is the seventh best time.

The other Azzurro, Leonardo Deplano, from the Carabinieri and Circolo Canottieri Aniene, stops at 48″82 for the 23rd time, while the reference time is set by the American Jack Alexy with 47″57.

The morning of qualifications ends unfortunately with a bitter taste due to the exclusion from the final of the men’s 4×200 freestyle, who finished fifth three years ago in Tokyo, by just two tenths of a second.

Giovanni Caserta, 1’46”85, Alessandro Ragaini, 1’48”08, Carlos D’Ambrosio, 1’47”24, and Filippo Megli, 1’46”46, recorded the tenth best time with 7’08”63.

Great Britain with 7’05”11, United States with 7’05”57 and France with 7’05”61 lead the heats in the top three positions.

Great anticipation for tonight starting at 20:30, where besides the semifinals of Miressi, Razzetti, and Carini, there will also be the final of the 800 freestyle featuring Gregorio Paltrinieri and Luca de Tullio.
