The gymnast Simone Biles won her eighth Olympic medal on Tuesday by being part of the United States team that secured the women’s artistic gymnastics team competition for the fourth time at the Paris Olympic Games.

At the Bercy Arena, the Americans confirmed their status as favorites and closed the competition with a total of 171.296 points, succeeding Russia in the Olympic record.

Behind the United States, which had already won Olympic gold in Atlanta 1996, London 2012, and Rio 2016, Italy finished second, winning silver with 165.494 points, and Brazil totaled 164.497 points, earning bronze, marking the first collective medal ever in the event.

Simone Biles, who made a full return to the Paris 2024 Games after winning five medals in Rio 2016 and drawing attention to the mental health issues faced by athletes during Tokyo 2020, played a decisive role in securing the gold.

The Texan gymnast, who competed with her left leg taped due to discomfort in her calf, scored 14.900 points on vault, 14.400 on bars, 14.366 on beam, and 14.666 on floor.

With the individual all-around competition yet to be contested (in which Portuguese gymnast Filipa Martins will also participate) and the apparatus finals still to come, Simone Biles has added her eighth Olympic medal, the fifth gold, along with one silver and two bronzes.
