(Hasnain Mohiuddin) Pakistan has been given 4 seasons by Allah and surprisingly the intensity of these seasons varies from month to month which our elders used to use indigenous calendar to understand but very few people in this age of innovation. Only now are aware of this knowledge.

The original name of the desi calendar is ‘Bikrami Calendar’ but it is also known as Punjabi Calendar and Jantri Calendar, Bikrami Calendar was started in 100 BC during the reign of Indian king “Raja Bikram Ajit” and is named after that king. It was named Bikrami calendar, its month is arranged according to Qamar instead of Shams.

The basic key to understanding the Desi calendar is that its month starts from the middle of the lunar month, that is, when the moon is 15 days old, the first of the Desi month will be. Muslim King Zaheeruddin Babur also wrote in his self-indulgent book ‘Tazak Babri’.

First month

The Desi year is of 365 days, the first month of which is called ‘Vaisakh’ which starts from the middle of April. The specialty of this month is that it has 31 days.

Second month

The second month of Bikrami calendar is called ‘Jeeth’ which starts from mid-May and ends in mid-June, the number of days in this month is 32.

The third month

The third month of the Punjabi calendar is called ‘Haar’ which begins in mid-June and also has 32 days.

The fourth month

The name of the fourth month of Bikrami calendar is ‘Savan’ which is going to start after a few days i.e. it will start from the middle of July this month has 30 days.

The fifth month

The fifth month of Desi calendar is called ‘Bhadon’ which starts in mid-August and this month also has 30 days.

The sixth month

The sixth month of the Punjabi calendar is called ‘Asu’ which lasts from mid-September to mid-October.

The seventh month

The seventh month of Bikrami calendar is ‘Katak’ which lasts from mid-October to mid-November and this month also has 30 days.

The eighth month

The eighth month of the Desi calendar is ‘Maghar’, which runs from mid-November to mid-December, this month also has 30 days.

The ninth month

The ninth month of the Desi calendar is called ‘Poh’, which lasts from mid-December to mid-January.

The tenth month

The name of the tenth month of the Punjabi calendar is ‘Magh’, which runs from mid-January to mid-February. This month also has 30 days.

The eleventh month

The name of the eleventh month of the Desi calendar is ‘Phagan’ which starts from mid-February and lasts till mid-March.

The twelfth month

The twelfth and last month of the Desi calendar is called ‘Chet’ which starts from mid-March to mid-April.

One of the features of the Indian calendar is that it has 9 months of 30 days, one month of 31 days and 2 months of 32 and 32 days.
