The best airline in the world is… Singaporean. On the occasion of the International Aeronautics and Space Show in Le Bourget, the World Airline Awards, the prizes for the best airlines in the world, were awarded on Tuesday.
To reward the companies and establish its ranking, the organization in charge carried out a survey between September and May, among thousands of passengers of more than 100 nationalities. A total of 325 airlines were rated. The criteria evaluated in the survey conducted by Skytrax were divided into three categories: crew, ground experience and onboard experience.
Best airline and best first class for Singapore
The people who responded to this survey had to rate each of the criteria from 1 to 5 each time, including the comfort of the seats, the variety of products available on board, the cleanliness of the aircraft, the ease of check-in or the clarity of the announcements made by the crew.
And so it was Singapore Airlines that came out on top. “She has achieved excellent results in many award categories, the highlight being recognition of her first class as the best in the world,” said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax.
Present for the award ceremony, Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, underlined that this victory had been made possible thanks to the tireless work of his team, who made “many sacrifices to ensure that the company was ready for the resumption of air transport. This has allowed us to come out of the pandemic stronger and fitter.”
A new success for the company which had already received this award 5 times since 2004. It succeeds Qatar Airways, which has won each year since 2019.
Air France in 7th position
If we continue the ranking, we see that the Qatari company is not left behind, placing second. The Japanese from All Nippon Airways complete the podium. The first French company is Air France, which comes in 7th position. On their site, the World Airlines Awards praise the qualities of the onboard experience, which “make the flight a real moment of pleasure in all its daily operations”. The French company’s first class is also extremely well rated.
For low-cost companies, AirAsia, Scoot and IndiGo take the first three places. But other prizes by continent were also awarded at the Paris Air Show. Turkish Airlines was named the best airline in Europe (with the award for best economy class) while the Austrians from Austrian Airlines won the award for the best crew in Europe.
As for regional low-cost airlines, Volotea ranks first in Europe, followed by Transavia France and airBaltic. Volotea also won the award for the company whose service has “improved the most” during the year.
