Chennai: Famous playback singer and actor Manika Vinayagam Shastri, who reached Chennai yesterday, passed away due to ill health. He is 78 years old.
Manikkavinayakam is the youngest son of Bharatanatyam teacher Valuvoor Ramaiah from Valuvoor, Mayiladuthurai district. He has sung over 800 film songs and over 15,000 devotional and folk songs in various languages.
He has also acted in Tamil films including Thiruda Thirudi, Kambiram and Perazhagan. His last tribute will be held in Chennai today. Many are mourning his death.
