Renaud embarked on a major tour in 2023 and the singer took the opportunity to send a few messages. Before his concert in Biarritz, Friday April 28, the 70-year-old singer granted the Parisian his first interview since the start of his “Dans mes cords” tour. Tired politically, the singer remains firmly opposed to Emmanuel Macron and his pension reform.

If, during the presidential election in 2022, Renaud had announced his choice of candidate (Philippe Poutou, of the New Anti-Capitalist Party), the musician has been more discreet since. “Politics no longer interests me at all,” he told the newspaper. “The political class drives me to despair, I don’t even want to criticize it anymore. »

“I leave room for young people…”

A disinterest which even pushes him not to want to demonstrate this Monday 1is May, the date on which the unions want to make a “massive” and “popular” demonstration against the pension reform, while the executive is counting on “a last stand” before moving on to something else. “No, I’m too old for that. I leave room for young people, ”says Renaud on a daily basis.READ ALSO Singer Renaud finds love again at 70

Asked about the pension reform, the singer claims to be always opposed to it. “This reform is bullshit,” he blurts out, before adding: “The whole of France is against it and Macron is maintaining it. ” If he intends to mobilize less in the street, Renaud plans to write a song about the Head of State: “I will say bad things about it with humor, as I did with Margaret Thatcher (the song “Miss Maggie”, in 1985, about the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom). “And to admit:” I regret having voted for him, but, facing Le Pen, I had no choice. »

The singer also regrets the lack of commitment in the current French song. “I almost only listen to Thiéfaine, Brassens, Cabrel, Souchon, the big ones, what. In young people, apart from Gauvain, Grand Corps Malade, Bénabar, the dashing Cowboys, there is no longer any commitment. The fear of displeasing the radios, social networks, they want to make the buzz at all costs…”, he believes.
