In about two weeks Valentine’s Day will come and as per tradition, the singles among us will try not to spend the evening alone, so whether you are looking for the love of your life or just a date for Valentine’s Day, this article is for you.

A new survey finds that single Americans should flock to the East Coast – where there are more single Americans than anywhere else in the United States.

According to a survey commissioned by the Center for Psychology, the city with the best chance of finding a date is Richmond, Virginia. It was immediately followed by other cities on the East Coast: Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Newark and Cincinnati, which closed the top five respectively.

Cities in the Midwest also managed to enter the first 20 cities – St. Louis (8th place), Detroit (9th), Madison (10th), Milwaukee (18th) and Chicago (20th).

How is it different between men put? Across the US, Minneapolis ranks as the top city for finding single men. US Census data shows that more than 101,000 men in Minneapolis have never been married. Atlanta is second followed by Newark and Pittsburgh.

As for women, Buffalo, located in New York state, has the highest single population. Many single women are also found in Richmond and Pittsburgh, along with two cities in Ohio – Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Almost one in three people (31%) are not content to remain single. Half of the respondents say they miss the physical attachment that accompanies a romantic relationship. Others feel like the odd friend because all their friends are in a relationship or married. Another 23% of respondents simply do not like being alone.

The fear of dying alone has probably crossed most people’s minds at some point. In fact, nearly half of the singles surveyed say they are afraid of being alone forever. Almost one in three have tried dating to alleviate loneliness, whether they were successful or not. It made 20% feel less lonely, but on the flip side, 31% felt even more lonely after the fact.
